Outcome: Exceptional professional learning

We recently started a partnership with DWL to train our Senior Directors and front-line afterschool staff for summer programming. Their team provided virtual workshops and also had staff complete a self-directed on-line workshop. Their facilitators are incredibly knowledgeable and are capable of tailoring key content to a variety of audiences.

I completed both self-directed and virtual workshops: the content and delivery is exceptional. Our agency would definitely work with them in the future.

They are incredibly flexible and can tailor content to meet your specific needs.

They provided us with reports that we needed for our funders. Ms. Jennifer Brady always made herself accessible when I had any questions or requests. They turn client feedback into actionable items and are hands-on to provide high quality service. I highly recommend DWL as a partner.

Outcome: Stronger materials and facilitators

I met Jennifer and learned about Development without Limits (DWL) while we both served on the Advisory Board for the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA) initiative Afterschool Coaching for Reflective Educators in STEM (ACRES). Through our conversations I realized the Jennifer and the DWL team had the skills and mindsets required to support the Transforming Teen Services: A Train the Trainer project of which I was the project manager. This federally-funded initiative required designing a train the trainer curriculum for library staff working with teens.

The curriculum needed to be customizable across the United States and needed to be accessible to library staff who had little to no experience facilitating informal learning for and with adults. Jennifer's team took on the work and delivered a product that exactly met our needs and was positively received by the library staff using and customizing the materials developed. Jennifer and her team also facilitated multiple trainings with the library staff who would use the curriculum. The DWL team quickly built rapport and trust with participants in the training which made for extremely successful experiences.

Working with Jennifer and the DWL team was a positive experience. As the curriculum was under development Jennifer kept in close touch to find out what changes needed to be made and to hear new ideas. All feedback was graciously accepted and integrated into materials. Jennifer was also a member of the planning team for this project and she was able to help us think through challenges and opportunities and also provided virtual training when we needed to shift as a result of the pandemic. I would, without hesitation, hire Jennifer and the DWL team again.

Outcome: Increased confidence as a facilitator

I came to DWL seeking a boost in my Zoom tech savvy and virtual engagement skills as a longtime facilitator of in-person retreats, action planning sessions, and mission/vision/values work with teams who needed to pivot quickly to the virtual realm during the pandemic. Though my migration to Zoom early in the pandemic felt natural (as a person who'd previously managed webinars and the occasional virtual meeting with ease), as time wore on, the prospect of having Zoom as the only option for the deep client engagements I'd previously done in-person became overwhelming. I found myself coming away from virtual client engagement sessions feeling a mixture of frustration, bewilderment, stress, and exhaustion. I know some of those feelings were attributable to being a working parent in a global pandemic, but much of those feelings centered on the fact that I lacked "creative juice" when it came to planning virtual engagements and anticipating participant needs. I knew I needed to deepen my intentionality around planning and implementing the virtual realm. I feel fortunate to have found DWL's offering at just the right time.

Immediately, from the first session, I knew I was in the right place. I saw my trainer modeling practices that made virtual sessions instantly more comfortable as a participant. Through the training sessions, I could critically examine my own practices and meetings through the eyes of my participants. I saw that Jennifer and her team were seasoned at anticipating the needs of virtual meeting participants, which were distinctly different from the in-person participant needs I knew well. I came away from each session with hands-on tools and skills I put to use immediately in my own work. In short order, I was designing and running meetings I felt good about. My confidence for running virtual sessions with clients grew significantly. And, the feedback from my clients indicated that they saw and felt the shift in my own practices.

I cannot recommend DWL's virtual training for facilitators enough! I am a better practitioner because of the professional development boost I got as a training participant. Thank you, Jennifer and DWL!!
